Welcome to the Church Farmhouse Cakes Blog We will up date you regularly on cake making happenings in our farmhouse kitchen in Croxton Kerrial. Don't be surprised how much there will be to talk about, the cake which was to be given to the Sandhurst bomb squad, being the perfect example. 20th January 2012 Thank you to all the people (over 5,000) who visited our web site during November/December last year.So much happened in 2011 that by the time we had baked over 750 Christmas Cakes it took until mid January to update the Blog - sorry about that... The addition of Christmas Puddings and Hampers to our range resulted in lots of praise. 2012 will be another busy year for Church Farmhouse Cakes and as you can see we are beginning to add dates and details of the events which we will be attending. One of the first will be 'The Cheese Producer's Awards' in Melton Mowbray in May 2012 where we will be taking along our Ale Cakes. Originally commissioned by The Guardian, the cakes were devised and sent out to the Radio 4 Cricket Commentators in the West Indies. Wonderful with cheese, if you look on our online ordering pages, you will see that we have an excellent gift linking 'Ale Cake and Cheddar Cheese' together. 8th February As you can imagine we are now well into Easter preparations. Magazines which are to feature our Simnel Cakes will include Homes & Gardens March issue, detailing to readers our Simnel Cake with violets. We will update you again very soon. Each month I write about 'cakes' for a local magazine 'Village Link' which covers over 97 villages in the Vale of Belvoir here in Leicestershire. A cake recipe is given and 'talked about', so do have a look at their web site and try out the recipe. I gather the Buttermilk Chocolate Cake was so well received that the recipe has been passed on to friends and family. You can click into their web site through our links. Other weekly blogs for major magazines will be available to read very soon, so I will update you. Spring & Summer Country Fairs Come and learn about Country Cakes & Biscuits Why not try some? Talk about them? okay-we won't mind if you buy one or two as well 18th March Mothering Sunday Belton House Grantham 28th April Stamford Artisan's Guild at Oakham Castle 12th/13th May Cheese Awards Fayre Melton Mowbray 30th June/1st July 'Food Fair' Belton House Grantham 18th/19th August 'Country Fair' Belton House Grantham 27th/28th August Burghley House Craft and Food Fair 25th September 'Kesteven Children in Need' Honnington Lincolnshire Christmas Foodie Events Southwell Bramley Apple Fair 20th October 10th November Artisan's Guild Oakham Castle 17th/18th November Christmas Fair Belton House 24th November Christmas Fair Harlaxton 1st/2nd December Christmas Food Fair Burghley House We will let you know more about the East Midlands Food Fair in October Having introduced several new cakes to our range, we thought it was about time we updated the web site with some new images, the latest prices, which can be 'looked at' via our online ordering pages. We are also pretty excited about being able to detail the Country and Artisan Fairs to which we will be taking our cakes and if you keep an eye on our Blogs we will add the range of cakes which we will be taking to shows, in addition to our rich fruit cakes. So many cakes and ingredients, including spices, have wonderful histories and magical stories from the past,so letting you taste and buy, will enable us to talk to you and to show you some photographs of times relating to past days in the farming year. Hopefully, when I learn how, I will also be able to include more (and better) photographs although sadly, making the cakes for photography, will mean that we have to eat them. What a hardship that will be. Bye the way, thought we had better tell you that we have also (after a lot of deliberation) decided to offer 'celebration' cakes to our service, but not to our standard range, as wedding cakes and birthday cakes are so personal and bespoke. Those we have baked and decorated have all been received with oohs and aahs. which is how it should be. If you would like to delve a little deeper into the possibility of a Church Farmhouse wedding, birthday, or 'celebration' cake please get in touch on 01476 870150. .png)
